iOS transfer made easier
Trouble transferring files to iOS devices from Ubuntu? Now try iosTransferGUI, a simple way to load files onto iPad without having to use the command-line ifuse and libimobiledevice:
Unfortunately this requires libimobiledevice 1.2, which is not the default on current Ubuntu. If you don’t want to compile it and related libimobiledevice utilities, there are PPA archives that include the latest.
Once installed, you may select apps from the File-sharing tab and copy files over – selecting the app again will disconnect the app. This makes it easy to copy files from iTunesU or other services to VLC and other media playing apps.
Update: As of 16.04, libimobiledevice 1.2 is already installed and lets you browse apps that have shared documents – with no extra installation!
Update: This probably won’t work with newer versions of iOS, so don’t upgrade if you can help it.
